Stained Carpet Underfoot

Why have I spilled again?

Gentle soaking of grey through this fresh carpet

Seeing only afterward my oblivion

Be the new, create me again, please

Searching for a beacon of a light only to find darkness

Clinging to straws of hope in this lake of despair

I travel on this carpet with skinned knees

I’m searching will you find me please

Stained carpet underfoot

Gone again, come tomorrow

Stained carpet underfoot

Gone again, clean me away, please

I ask you to lay a new life

But as I walk over, I trample in the day’s stains

Every stain darker, every carpet newer

I have a stain, how soon until I see you

When will I be able to walk on clean

I’m stuck on this stain

When will I have freshness laid underfoot

How can I make the old new

Stained carpet underfoot

Gone again, come tomorrow

Stained carpet underfoot

Gone again, clean me away, please
